Off to Toronto for another quickly get away. I left Wilson on Wednesday around 10:30 AM and motor sailed the entire way to Ashbridges Bay. I spent the nights with the good people at the Toronto Hydroplane & Sailing Club. I was planning on spending just one night but found the club and the members there so inviting. (I knew this already from staying there in the past). Also I thought it would be a good time for me to check out the Beaches and the Jazz Festival. I am glad I stayed. It was an awesome event. Huge crowd, tons of music, a must see again.

I thought I would get an early start on Friday and left the club at 05:30 hrs. After about an hour of motoring I noticed I was about out of fuel. I knew I was never going to make it home and thought I would need an engine with the forecast I was hearing. I turned around, headed back to Toronto Island Marian, waited for the diesel truck to arrive and finally filled up 3/4 of my tank (at $5.20 a gallon - $55.00!!)

I ended up in Wilson by 15:40hrs and was home in time for C to do her thing. Awesome trip, a must for the kids next year for sure.

Returning home from a four day mini crusie with C. Left Alexandra at 07:38 and arrived in Wilson 4 1/2 hours later, a total of 33 NM. Needless to say we were flying. Winds were steady at 15 knots the entire way home. This is my first attempt at posting a video, so I hope it is not too big a file.

Chris and I left for a three night get-a-way from Wilson at 17:30 hrs and attempted to get to Youngstown for the night, Only 12 NM west. We made it there but met some fierce weather. It was blowing steady at 15-18 knots and at one time after a storm cell passed near us it gusted to 26 knots! We even contemplated heading off towards Toronto to avoid some weather. Luckily we reevaluated that call and headed back into to the river. A wicked front came through and we would have been caught right in the middle of it had we attempted to cross the lake. The next morning we left NOTLSC and headed to Alexandra Yacht Club for two days. Nice people, good meals in town, music and relaxation. More to come...

Overnight with the full crew. Steak dinner at clubhouse. Kick ball on the lawn, sprinkler maintenance and then the winds picked up to plus 20 knots, which meant...I had to go out for a sail. After getting some gas Brian M. and I went out in Bad Karma with the "blade"; a tiny little jib that moved us nicely. Sailed until the moon came up. It was a full bright orange moon...awesome night. Up early, all except Banana. Showers, then to Olcott for morning breakfast.

Day sail began at 11:15 hrs. Pleasant breeze from the NE at around 7 knots. Sailed for Oakville, with rest of TYC Club cruisers. Spoke with Wavelength at 15 NM out. Sailed 10NM and returned under power in time to get home for evening dinner with CCC. It was a good day to leave work after only two hours! I have an estimate of 185NM sailed (traveled) for the season so far. That is a good month of June! (That is with the additional 30 miles to Toronto that was not logged due to log equipment errors.)

Evening "Race" Night solo sail. Blowing 15 + knots. Sailed East & West with Mary Catherine, 12NM. Single reef in jib, almost got blown up into MC. There was the most intense, amazing sunset that evening. Orange, reds, magenta - unreal!

A quick get-a-way to Toronto. Friday was an evening with the girls on board overnight. Shrek, dinner at club, etc., then breakfast in the morning. Chris came down and picked up girls and I headed to Toronto after fuel (6.6 gals @ 809.2 hrs). Since I changed the fuel filter I have not had any engine RPM drops so far. Log not working on the way there but did fucntion on the way back. Total round trip was 59.7 NM. I sailed about 23 NM into the West Gap and then right to NYC. Busy NOODS Regatta but they fit me in. Rode bike up and down Queen St. Had dinner at Gabbys on King St. West; awful! Never again. They took food off the bill though which was cool. I was up early at NYC and left by 09:15. Motored out West Gap and motored past Islands. Ended up sailing in 10 knot westerlies for about 4 hours and then it dropped to nothing. Cleaned boat, had lunch and motored the last hour or so. Met family at pool for swim and dinner at club. Too much sun! Forgot to apply lotion to my face.

The Jones' Family. An evening sail that was very breezy, 15 + knots and an upset sea state after blowing from the west all day long. Young Liam did not feel well so we moored in the lagoon for subs and music. Distance 4.62 NM, Year Total: 373.2 NM.

Quick Overnight Sail to Youngstown. Spent the night on a mooring which was very cool. Something different. I brought the dinghy so I was able to zip into to twon for a bite to eat. Was back within th ehour and had a pleasant evening on board. Cleaned up and played with camera. First time on mooring alone and was a bit tricky. Had to move and lost engine power while going to another ball. Changed fuel filter after 54 hours on previous one. No problems noticed on motor home in the morning.

Race night in Wilson. Flukie winds before the start. I was watching from afar. The breeze completely changed direction from NE to SW. As soon as it did the temperature rose about 15 degrees. Plus the fresh off shore smells from the dairy farm. Awesome sail totaling about 12 NM. Warm, sunny and breezy. Awesome.

A pleasant slow sail. Used spinnaker entire trip. Supplemented with main, closer to river entrance. Average speed was 3 knots, (17:30 - 20:45) One tack into river. Cleaned cockpit with lake water. Boat looking better. Original plans to YYC, changed to NOTLSC instead. Angel Inn, live band & bubble hockey. Borrowed a member's car to drive in to Hortons in AM. Depart Sunday AM at 08:20, motor home in light rain. Need to look for interior speakers for down below.

The girls and I decided to head to the lake after school. I wanted to get my wallet that I left on board this past weekend and thought it was a good excuse to go sailing. We had dinner at Brownies, then a (very) short sail for less than an hour. Good evening sail to get the girls use to going out to see again. They did well, and it reminds me I need to be so prepared for a man (child) overboard. I kept running scenarios through my head, what I would do first, then what, etc. Must be prepared because you never know...

Overnight to Port Dalhouse. Dinner at Murphy's. Horton's in AM (leaving ATM card) and off to Wilson. Engine ran perfectly. Throttle cable may need adjustment, RPM's drop to 2100 and level off there. A nice relaxing get away, which included properly tuning the mast when back at my slip.

SOLO SHAKEDOWN - May 23, 2007

Finally! I was able to get out of the harbor for a rather quick sail. I have been waiting for the new hot water tank to arrive from West Marine and it finally did. I spent two days installing it (taking my time). I finally got all the fittings and parts I needed and I am up and running with hot water again. My engine runs through the hot water tank and I had trouble finding the proper size fittings. So I was out of commission for a week or so. But, all better! My first quick sail was pleasant.

We launched all the boats in near record time this year. We were just short of last year's record by only 7 minuets. Not too bad. A great crew and (semi) good weather helped. The boat was waxed and rubbed out using an orbital buffer this year and the results were very noticeable. Well worth it.
